Objective
To provide & coordinate medical services, to ensure highest standards of patient care.
Principal Accountabilities :
Principal Accountabilities
(A) Strategic
• Implementation of hospital's /medical services vision & philosophy.
• Infection control, Health care waste management, awareness of patients rights & safety issues, relationship building.
• Supplement/take charge in case of the vertical is on leave/absent etc.
• Strategic inputs in her/his vertical & should forward recommendation for continuous improvement in the vertical.
(B) Operational
• To provide the best possible prompt medical care to all patients.
• To write progress notes of the patients under the care of anesthesia team (eg. PCA patients) in the records at least twice in one shift. The notes should be relevant to the patient’s current health status & should reflect the future plan in compliance with the admitting consultant after discussion with all concerned staff.
• To liaise with the admitting consultants.
• To coordinate all the references with other specialists if desired.
• To ensure all the investigations are sent & the reports are interpreted & informed the concerned consultants. To ensure all related follow up including any change in the line of treatment on the basis of the reports of the investigations.
• To give bedside over to the reliver while going off duty, if required.
• Should facilitate all audits in the concerned areas & answer all their queries.
• Inventory management, In addition to that to ensure systems to avoid wastages/pilferages/thefts etc.
• To ensure SOP’s of the Medical Services be implemented.
• To help the Functional & administrative heads in day to day operations.
• To adhere to duty roster & to take prior permission of Functional & administrative heads in case of any mutual arrangements/ leaves etc.
• To participate in the in service education programmes.
• To train staff in the concerned areas to ensure the service excellence programme.
• To ensure adequate record keeping in the concerned areas.
• To participate in periodic staff reviews to assess effectiveness of the particular areas.
• Ensure proper functioning of all the equipment and instruments and coordinates with engineering/biomedical /appropriate department for malfunctioning/repair/replacement /loss/theft/indents.
• Ensure maintenance and disposal of records and documents as per the quality standards
• Initiate inputs to functional & administrative heads to different support clinical committees as and when required.
• To ensure all the records are maintained in the ward.
• To ensure reporting of Deaths or any other eventuality & their follow ups.
• To ensure all the Medico Legal cases are adequately handled.
• To ensure all the patients of notifiable diseases are addressed to the competent authorities.
• Liasioning with other deptts for achieving service excellence.
• To complete all the pre anesthesia check ups in the hospital both in elective as well as emergency settings and to be a part of the code blue team.
• To assist in the OR in giving anesthesia both for elective as well as emergency cases.
• To help in pain management for all inpatients and to take care of all patients on PCA and epidural forms of analgesia.
• Act promptly as part of the Code Blue Team when on duty.
Performance Parameters
1. Quality and timeliness of the service delivery of the patients.
2. Thorough history taking & Medical Records keeping.
3. To participate in quality audits in the concerned areas & to ensure preventive & corrective actions.
4. To ensure error free Medical care in all allocated areas.
5. To participate in the on going education.
6. To maintain highest standards in infection control & waste management.
7. To ensure all the emergency medicines are available & the equipments are in the working condition.
8. To train all the subordinate staff for best practices to ensure implementation of service excellence programme.
9. Handling of grievances of patients & the internal staff.
10. To participate in the performance management system of the all reporting subordinates
11. Prompt grievance/complaint handlings.
Education
A recognized postgraduate Degree from Medical Council of India. Must be registered with State/Medical Council of India.
Experience
A Minimum of 0-6 year of relevant experience in the concerned specialty in a Super/Multi Specialty hospital is desirable.
Knowledge

• Computer literacy and hands on PC.
